What future are we helping create?

Whether intentionally or not, we leave behind institutions, technologies, traditions, discoveries, cultures, ecosystems, and possibilities that shape those who follow. Tomorrow is never created by accident. It is assembled through millions of choices made today.

Hyphainic Humanism calls this Future Thinking.

Much of modern life encourages us to think in quarters, election cycles, news cycles, and lifetimes. Human flourishing asks us to think in generations.

Future Thinking is the practice of expanding our horizon of concern. It invites us to imagine futures that do not yet exist, to build institutions we may never personally benefit from, and to devote ourselves to work whose greatest rewards may belong to people we will never meet.

Hope is not passive optimism.

Hope is choosing to participate in creating a preferable future.

Every generation inherits a certain horizon of possibility.

Our responsibility is to leave that horizon wider than we found it.
